How should I photograph it?

  1. Write with a bold, dark pen on white, unlined paper. A ballpoint is often too faint — a felt tip or a fountain pen is better.
  2. Even light, no hard shadows. Daylight by a window is enough.
  3. Shoot square on from above so the writing does not skew.
  4. Get closer than you think — the more pixels land on the stroke, the cleaner the edges.

Why preview it on two backgrounds?

Because cut-out mistakes are invisible on white. A pale halo around the strokes only shows on a dark background — and dark is exactly where the signature may end up. If both previews look clean, the result is right.

The sliders, briefly

ThresholdThe dividing line between paper and ink. Too high and scraps of paper stay; too low and the stroke goes patchy.
SoftnessHow gently ink fades to transparent. Wider: softer edges. Narrower: harder.
Stroke weightMakes the stroke heavier or finer without losing the soft edge.
RecolourReplaces the ink colour — classic blue, for instance.

Is this a legally valid signature?

A pasted image is a simple electronic signature. For everyday documents such as job applications that is enough. Where the law demands written form it is not — there you need a qualified electronic signature, or paper and ink.
